CARSON DOWNEY ACOUSTIC SHOW
(FEB. 15, 7:30 – 9:30 P.M., TICKETS $32)
Carson Downey Band’s success started almost by accident when the president of a record company overheard the band playing through a door left ajar in 1997.
The executive was shocked to see the guitarist use his teeth to play the instrument and they were offered a record deal right there and then.
They released their debut album titled All the Way two years later.
Two decades later, the band from North Preston have won several East Coast Music Awards among other honours, including Album of the Year at the African Nova Scotian Music Awards.
JOEL PLASKETT (FEB. 26, 7:30 – 9:30 P.M., TICKETS $40)
Halifax rocker and Juno Awardwinner Joel Plaskett is bringing his alternative feel to Truro, where people can enjoy music from one of Canada’s top songwriters.
Since spending his teenaged years recording and touring with Halifax indie group Thrush Hermit, Plaskett branched out on his own.
He released two critically acclaimed albums, In Need of Medical Attention in 1999 and Down at the Khyber in 2001, both independently.
Next, Plaskett signed to Maple Music Recordings for the release of 2003’s Truthfully Truthfully, a rock tour de force with his band, The Emergency.
That record scored with critics and fans alike and put Plaskett on the national radar.
Truthfully Truthfully was nominated for a Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year and won an East Coast Music Award for Rock Recording of the Year.
