Local sports award nominees announced

TRURO, N. S. – The Truro Sport Heritage Society has announced nominees for the 35th Truro Sport Awards Dinner.

The annual dinner will be Sunday, March 3, at the Best Western Glengarry in Truro.

The society has welcomed nomination­s over the past year for deserving individual­s and teams. The dinner acknowledg­es the sport accomplish­ments of local athletes and volunteers from the Town of Truro and Colchester County for 2018.

There will be a total of 22 awards handed out at the dinner with categories ranging in age from under 15 to over 50 years.

Bruce Rainnie, president and CEO of the Nova Scotia Sport Hall of Fame, will again be emcee for the event.

During the coming weeks the nominees will be featured in the Truro News leading up to the announceme­nt of the award winners. A special posthumous chair award will be presented in honour of Veronica Macmillan. There will also be a new sports legacy award presented.

Each year the dinner is usually a sellout, so it is important for people to book their tickets well in advance.
