Two Bible Hill village commissioners re-elected
BIBLE HILL, N.S. – Donna Van Kroonenburg and Knickolle Pitcher are returning to the Bible Hill Village Commission for another term.
When the nomination period closed at 4:30 p.m. on May 16, they were the only candidates for the two open seats. Returning officer, Mitchell Bell, declared them elected to a three-year term.
Van Kroonenburg was first sworn in as a commissioner in June 2007.
“I decided to re-offer because there are a lot of things we’re working on that I’d like to see transpire,” she said.
These include trail expansion, a new pumper truck for the Bible Hill
Fire Brigade, new signals for some crosswalks and rebranding for the village.
“We’re looking at push buttonactivated LED lights on crosswalks that don’t have overhead lights,” she said. “We plan to have about five of those installed this summer.
“This is my fourth term and I’m very excited about that. I brought up my kids here and I love being part of the village and on the commission.”
Pitcher was first sworn in as a commissioner in August 2018, having won in a by-election.
“I’ve completed financial training, through a course designed specifically for elected officials, and have taken part in several meetings with the Town of Truro’s elected officials and our own rebranding process, which I look forward to seeing through to completion,” she said. “The commission is currently working on several exciting initiatives for our village, and I personally would love to see a Community Garden created for the villagers of Bible Hill and will work toward that, so long as the commission agrees.”
She has served as chair of the environmental committee and deputy chair for the transportation committee.
At the village commission meeting on May 21 Lois Maccormick returned as chair and Van Kroonenburg was re-elected to the deputy-chair position
Maccormick was first sworn in as a commissioner in February 1991, and in 2016 became the 20th person, and third woman, elected chair.
