Beatlemani­a coming to Truro’s Marigold

TRURO, N.S. – If you’ve endured a hard day’s night working like a dog, then sing your sorrows away with some help from the music of the Fab Four.

Beatlemani­a Revisited will bring the looks, sounds and excitement of the British quartet who came to define the Swinging Sixties for their June 13 show at Truro’s Marigold Cultural Centre.

The Beatles first formed in 1960 with band members John Lennon, Paul Mccartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr, whose personas will be recreated in exact detail by Beatlemani­a Revisited. This includes 1960s vintage clothing and instrument­s, giving their fans an authentic taste of the time period.

Fifty years after their heyday, the Beatles remain the most commercial­ly successful band in the history of pop music, with their recordings selling more than one billion units according to Guinness World Records’ numbers.

Beatlemani­a Revisited presents 35 songs, including I Want To Hold Your Hand, Ticket to Ride, Yesterday, Penny Lane, Hey Jude, Something, Let It Be and many other timeless favourites.

Showtime is 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $45.25.

LOCAL LOVE LIVE

(June 6, 7 p.m., tickets $25) Local Love Truro is a celebratio­n of everything Truro has to offer and nomination­s are closed. The second round of voting will be on June 6.

People can also enjoy live entertainm­ent and the night will be a fundraiser for the Marigold Cultural Centre.

A TOM PETTY TRIBUTE BY KENNY JAMES

(June 8, 7:30 p.m., tickets $20) Singer/songwriter Kenny James from Sackville will perform songs from Tom Petty and the Heartbreak­ers in two full sets.

James will honour the wellknown American musician with songs spanning 30 years from 1976 to 2006.

SING! A FUNDRAISER FOR SPOTLIGHT THEATRE

(June 9, 2 p.m., donations at the door)

This fundraisin­g concert for Marigold Youth Spotlight Theatre will feature songs from iconic musicals such as Ragtime and Les Miserables, as well as more modern offerings including Mamma Mia and Legally Blonde.

This is an offering by Truro youth to give back to a program that has helped shape the careers and success of local young performers. The participan­ts will also share stories of how working with the Spotlight Theatre has impacted their lives.

HUBTOWN BIG BAND: THE ATLANTIC SUITE

( June 15, 7:30 p.m., adult tickets $30; students $15)

This 18-piece jazz ensemble hails from Truro and is offering its local fans a high energy performanc­e from big band to more modern melodies. The Hubtown Big Band will feature Canadian composer Phil Nimmon’s Atlantic Suite, among their favourite tunes.
