Truro minor teams crush the competitio­n

TRURO, N.S. – It was another great weekend on the gridiron for Truro minor football teams, as atom, peewee and bantam squads all came away with victories.

The Truro Tide downed Valley/fall River 26-0 in atom action, while the peewee Blue Bombers earned a convincing 41-6 win over the South Shore Seahawks, and the Freightlin­ers handled the Seahawks 38-8 in a bantam matchup. Following are snapshots of the games:

Atom

The Tide’s offense struck quick and was led by Daesean Brown, who picked up two rushing touchdowns and ran for more than 150 yards. Makeal Fields also connected with Brown to build the lead.

The defence was led by Max Loosli, who had an intercepti­on, four solo tackles and broke up a few passes.

The Tide look to keep rolling with a game against Dartmouth Destroyers on Friday, Oct. 4 under the lights at the TAAC Grounds. Game time is 6:30 p.m.

Peewee

The Blue Bombers’ defence continues to frustrate opponents, as strong performanc­es were turned in by Braydon Doran and Ryan Bezanson. First-year Bomber Dallas Roode also contribute­d with an intercepti­on and multiple tackles, as the Truro side improved its record a perfect 3-0. Next up for the Bombers is a trip to Canning Saturday, Oct. 6 to take on the Valley Bulldogs at 2 p.m.

Bantam

Offensive efforts included a two-touchdown performanc­e by Johnathan Seeton and Eric Fields, and one by Liam Legge. Defensivel­y, turnovers were the name of the game, with intercepti­ons by Damian Kaminski, Matt Benvie, Luca Langille and Will Rushton. Josh Hayward also had a strong effort and was named defensive player of the game.

The Freightlin­ers host the Dartmouth Destroyers under the lights at the TAAC Grounds on Friday, Oct. 4 during Alumni Night. Kickoff is 8 p.m.
