Truro Cannabis Company, in the Truro Business Park, was recently granted licences for sales and marketing to sell their marijuana products.

TRURO, N.S. – A local cannabis producer has received its long-awaited approval to begin marketing its products.

A news release from the Truro Cannabis Co., said it has received its sales and processing licences from Health Canada.

“This is a major step forward in our evolution towards being a world class cannabis company," said CEO Brent Macneil.

“With our licencing in place, we can begin to serve the local medical and recreational markets and directly fulfill our export opportunities."

The company, located in the Truro Business Park, was founded in 2014 and has “patiently worked to meet Health Canada’s requirements since that time.”

Truro Cannabis received its cultivation licence in June.

“This progress also represents a major opportunity for the local economy, as we will need to expand our work force in the coming months to satisfy demand in all aspects of our operations,” company chairman Dr. John Gillis added.

In addition to producing cannabis at the Truro facility, the company is involved with hemp production and processing, as well as cannabis packaging and rolling equipment.

Gillis said the combined impact of the three licences “creates a great opportunity” for both short- and long-term growth.

The company said it may still be several months before it has a full range of products available for medical patients and retailers but its immediate focus is to rely on the experience of its team to create high quality, sustainable production so patients do not run out of their medicine.
