HATFIELD, David Michael Sept 30, 1952 October 11, 2019

David Michael Hatfield, of Truro, passed peacefully from this world on October 11, 2019. He was the son of the late Walter and Albertha (Lavers) Hatfield of Truro. He loved his parents, and it showed in the respect and commitment he maintained to their memory. He was a beloved brother, enjoying time and giving his many talents to each of his siblings over the years, whether it be in construction, concrete finishing, writing and recording music, playing in local bands or for the enjoyment of his family. He was an attentive and loving uncle to his nieces and nephews. He encouraged their talents and fostered their self-confidence. He was a devoted husband to Nancy (Allen) Hatfield for 23 years and remained close to her after separation. His great joys were his children. He celebrated the arrival of his sons and daughters and recognized the most important role in his life was to be a good father. He fulfilled that commitment to the end. He had the additional blessings of two grandsons. He rejoiced and embraced the time he spent with them. David learned carpentry and construction from his father and worked closely under his supervision for many years at Latimer Construction. He later worked for Sinclair Contracting, and valued the working relationship and friendship he shared with Ian. David ventured out on his own, building many houses in the Truro area, and firming the foundations of many homes and businesses. He endured two decades battling cancer, over the last of which he received loving care and comfort in the home of his sister Liz, and her husband, Del. In the last month of life, he benefitted from the nursing care and compassion from the staff at Vimy Court. They went out of their way to provide every possible comfort to him. David’s family is grateful for the Palliative Care team, especially Lisa, with whom he shared many hours and discussions. For days and nights prior to David’s passing, he was surrounded by the love, laughter and stories of family members. David knew he was loved, and he loved each of us. David was predeceased by his eldest brother, Gareth (Haida Gwaii); and niece, Kimberley Ann (Pictou Landing). He is survived by brothers, Charles (Colleen), Truro; Alan (Mary), Pictou Landing; Donald (Diane), Hilden; Ralph (Richard), New Glasgow; sisters Mary Maccully-logan, Kentville; Elizabeth (Delbert) Mosher, Truro; Donna (Cyril) Macgillivray, Truro, and by sons, Davy, Alberta; Christopher, Ottawa; daughters, Amanda (Jamie), Elmsdale, Merrilee (Paxton), Leduc, Alberta; and grandsons, Rowan in Ottawa and Atlas in Alberta. Cremation has taken place. A private family gathering will be held in his honour. Donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society.
