BEARCAT BYTES

-

Ben Higgins Hometown: Bible Hill Number: 74

Age: 20 Position: Forward Size: 5-10, 190 lbs. Ben Higgins notched five points in two games and for his efforts was named Bearcat of the Week.

Higgins picked up a goal in a 5-3 loss to Summerside, then followed with a hat trick and one helper in an 8-7 shootout loss to the Crushers.

In his 13 games to date this season, he’s scored six goals and assisted on eight others. The Bearcats rely heavily on his offensive output.

Ben came up through the Truro and area minor program, scoring at each level. Following two seasons with the Truro major bantams, he spent the 2014-2015 year with the Weeks Major Midgets. At the end of that season he was named a Bearcat territorial pick and was then chosen in the seventh round by the Halifax Mooseheads of the QMJHL.

Ben’s rookie season in Truro was a solid one, scoring 12 goals and picking up 11 assists. For the last three years, he was a member of the Mooseheads, finishing with his participation in the Memorial Cup.

He developed into a 200-foot forward with speed being a big part of his skill set. He was named team captain in the weeks leading to the start of the season.
