BEARCAT BYTES Lauchie Macdonald

- ON TAP

Hometown: Bedford Number: 3 Age: 20 Position: Defense Size: 5-11, 170 lbs.

Veteran defenceman Lauchie Macdonald has earned Bearact of the Week honours.

Lauchie scored his first goal of the season in the opening period of the Valley game, giving the Bearcats a short-lived two goal lead. He’s seeing time in all situations.

Lauchie got his hockey start in the Bedford Blues minor program, working his way through the ranks to the major bantam level, suiting up for the Bedford Barons for a pair of seasons. Next up was a season with the Halifax Mcdonald’s midgets.

The 2016 Dieppe draft pick elected to play high school hockey during the 2016- 2017 season with the C.P. Allen Cheetahs. He played forward that year, picking up 19 goals and 14 assists. He played the following year with Yarmouth after acquiring his rights from Edmundston. He came to the Bearcats in the off-season, just prior to the start of last year. Mobility and a right shot have been valuable assets when joining the rush.

The Bearcats will be wearing their pink shirts at home games on Nov. 8 and 9. Bids to purchase will start at $50, with $10 increments to follow. To register for the auction, send your name, cell phone number and jersey desired to fuzzy@eastlink.ca. Bids to be texted to 902-986-8287. Check the Bearcat Facebook page and website for updated bids. Bids close at 10 p.m., Nov. 9. Winning bids will be announced during the Nov. 15 home game.

Truro hits the road for a pair of games in New Brunswick. Friday, the Bearcats are in Campbellton; then Saturday, in Miramichi to play the Timberwolves.
