Sports Hall of Fame honours inductees; Stanfields perform

Here’s what’s happening at the Marigold in November

TRURO, N.S. – The Colchester County Sports Hall of Fame is inducting five new members.

The special ceremony at Truro’s Marigold Cultural Centre will honour Denise Caughey, Denis Peterson, the 2002 Bearcat Baseball team, Justin Palardy and Robbie Cooke.

The Nov. 1 ceremony starts at 6:30 p.m. at the Marigold’s 605 Prince Street location. Tickets are $15.

THE STANFIELDS

(Nov. 14, 7:30 p.m., tickets $35)

Award-winning folk-rockers The Stanfields are bringing their rhythms to Truro.

Formed in 2008, the band has released five albums and has toured across North America and Europe. They have appeared alongside groups such as Flogging Molly and Queens of the Stone Age, among others.

TALENT STUDIO PRESENTS: A CHRISTMAS DOLLHOUSE

(Nov. 15, 7 p.m., tickets $25 (adult), $15 (child), $50 (family of three), $60 (family of 4-5)

A Christmas Dollhouse is a family-friendly musical written by Vladimir Sitnikov and Cheryl Edgett, based on the novel of the same name by Halifax writer Richard Rudnicki.

It is based on a true story that took place in Halifax during the 1930s. The story is a reflection of friendship, forgivenes­s and community, during Christmas.

The production brings together an enjoyable musical soundtrack, a young cast, an eye-catching set and elaborate costumes.

Musiciansh­ip and dance is provided by the Souvenir Dance Ensemble, based at the Maritime Conservato­ry of Performing Arts in Halifax.

HUBTOWN THEATRE: THINGS MY MOTHER TAUGHT ME

(Nov. 20-23, all shows start at 7:30 p.m., tickets $24)

This entertaini­ng play is about family fiascos and starting a new life far from home.

The story is centred on Olivia and Gabe as they move into their first apartment together in Chicago.

Halfway across America from their old homes, moving day doesn’t go exactly as planned. All of their parents show up to help with predictabl­e results.

Is a two-bedroom apartment big enough to handle the drama about to unfold?

VERONA STRING QUARTET

(Nov. 27, 7:30 p.m., tickets $25) This quartet represents four countries: Singapore, Britain, Canada and the United States.

They use their music to poetically tell stories and showcase the artform of the string quartet.

BETTE MACDONALD:

’TIS THE SEASON 13

(Nov. 29 – Dec. 2, all shows at 7:30 p.m., tickets $45)

This hilarious show tells amusing tales, featuring stage favourites Beulah Claxton, Martin Mackinnon, Wayne Tomko among others.

This is a no-holds-barred take on the most wonderful time of the year involving tales of skinny-dipping and much more.
