Tough road ahead

- Gerry Hale Gerry Hale is president and media relations coordinator for the Truro Bearcat junior A hockey team.

The Truro Bearcats appreciate February.

To date this month, the Bearcats put together a four-game winning streak. It was kicked off with that spectacular comeback win over the South Shore Lumberjacks.

The Bearcats pulled into Amherst last Wednesday and left with a convincing road win. The team picked up a pair of power-play goals, and scored a pair of goals each period.

Strong goaltending shut the door in the late stages of that game. Contributions from all corners were welcomed.

The Friday matchup with Edmundston was a dandy. Fans were treated to solid end-toend action, with Truro doing all the game’s scoring in the final period.

The Bearcats found a way to win against this upper echelon opponent – a power-play goal, a penalty shot goal while shorthanded, and a short-handed empty-netter.

The team capped off the weekend with a grinding win over the visiting Pictou County Crushers. Wins don’t have to be pretty.

Truro experienced all kinds of puck management difficulties in the early going – much of it self-inflicted. That got corrected.

It was a huge game in many ways. The Bearcats outlasted the Crushers, and kept their composure against the MHL’S most penalized team.

Results for the week put the

Bearcats in a good position coming into this week, in fourth spot, two points out of second.

The key now is to keep winning; no team is going to offer help or provide favours.

Final positions are in Truro’s hands.

Schedule demands are heavy beginning Friday. The Bearcats will have three games this weekend, with a Wednesday game thrown in. That’s hectic.

Friday, the Grand Falls Rapids come to the RECC for their lone visit.

The Rapids sit fifth in the other division.

Saturday, the Ramblers are in town. This is a matchup of huge importance. A ticket to the Friday game will get you a ticket for Saturday’s game also.

Sunday, the Bearcats are off to Summerside to face the Capitals, the MHL’S overall leader and fourth-ranked team in the country.

Mark it on your calendar – the Pictou County Crushers will be back at the RECC for a rare Wednesday night (Feb. 19) game against the Bearcats.

Go Cats Go.
