Fighters clash at the RECC

More than 1,000 fans attend professional/amateur fight card in Truro

TRURO, N.S. – A muchanticipated mixed martial arts event drew a raucous crowd Saturday night.

The main event was between Albertan Jesse "Big Cat" Arnett and Antigonish's Adam Macdougall, before more than 1,000 spectators. Arnett defeated Macdougall by submission after executing a rear naked chokehold, one minute and 48 seconds into the third round.

“It was a tough fight, my hat goes off to Adam, he’s a tough competitor,” said Arnett afterwards.

After his defeat, Macdougall said the first round started well.

“By the second and third round he was outwrestling me," Macdougall said, "and I was getting tired of trying to fight back to my feet and eventually he snuck in the rear naked choke.”

Fight League Atlantic brought eight amateur and three professional MMA bouts to the Rath-eastlink Community Centre.

Four Truro-area fighters took part in the amateur round, although three are now with clubs elsewhere.

Marmac Athletics’ Luke Little won his fight against Levi Nickerson. The others were Jessica Woodworth, currently with Pictou County Jiu-jitsu, Isaiah Bernard, now in Dartmouth and Rob Logan, fighting out of Saint John, N.B.

- 155lbs: Zack Davis (Dartmouth) beat Jon Steel (Summerside, P.E.I.) by TKO (doctor’s stoppage) at one minute, 13 seconds into the second round.

-145lbs: Luke Little (Marmac Athletics, Truro) beat Levi Nickerson (Wolfville) by TKO (referee’s stoppage) at 0:27 of the third round.

-165lbs: Josh Leblanc (Quispamsis, N.B.) beat Isaiah Bernard (Dartmouth/truro) by TKO (referee’s stoppage) at 2:26 of the second round.

-170lbs: Kyle Sutherland (Westville) beat Scott Vey (Lakeburn, N.B.) by unanimous decision (30-25, 29-28, 30-27).

-215lbs: Zach Garcia (Dartmouth) beat Rob Logan (Saint John, N.B.) by unanimous decision (29-28, 30-26, 30-27).

-125lbs: Denee Gallant (Charlottetown) beat Jessica Woodworth (Westville/ Truro) by unanimous decision (29-28, 30-27, 30-27).

-130lbs: Jake Kelly (Halifax) beat Corey Forsythe (Saint John, N.B.) by TKO at 2:00 of the second round.

-125lbs: Brady Macdonald (Westville) beat Kyle Allain (Charlottetown) by submission at 2:20 of the first round.

-170lbs: Ryan "Killjoy" Potter (Wolfville) beat Corey "The Drifter" Littler (Halifax) by unanimous decision (3027, 29-28, 29-28).

-150lbs: Jericho Macphee (Montreal) beat Douglas Monfee-smith (British Columbia) by TKO at 0:28 of the first round.

Main event – 135lbs: Jesse "Big Cat" Arnett (Calgary, Alta.) beat Adam Macdougall (Fredericton/antigonish) by submission (rear naked chokehold) at 1:48 of the third round.

(The planned main event pro welterweight bout between Shawn Wallace and Ryan Rohovich was cancelled.)
