Women benefit from hope-filled event
TRURO, N.S. – Esther Lysacovsky will share her story of finding hope during a difficult period, when she speaks at the upcoming Women of Hope event, March 7.
“I came through difficulties and became a stronger person because of that,” she said. “I’ll be talking about it to encourage women who are experiencing difficulty. This is an event to make women feel refreshed and encouraged.”
Lysakavsky grew up in Truro and returned to the town last June, after 12 years in Ontario, where she often spoke at events.
“This is my first speaking engagement since returning home and I’m looking forward to it,” she said. “I know there are a lot of people going through difficulties and we want to reach out to them.”
Her speech, “Moving from hopelessness to being hopeful,” is part of the event being held at First Baptist Church. A survivor of abuse and poor life choices will share her story, and there will be music, time to work on a craft, enjoy a light lunch and socialize.
“As a church, we’re starting to take seriously the fact that we’re in the downtown community for a reason,” said Ruth Tonn, associate pastor at the church.
“People have a lot of issues and we want to be a church they can depend on. We want to offer friendship, caring, joy and hope. There’s a place, and a person, and opportunity for them.
“Women of Hope is an afternoon of women coming together to spend time in community and friendship, and it’s open to any woman who wants to come. I hope people will encourage each other there and spread it beyond that.”
One way participants can share encouragement is to make a card, take it with them and present it to someone else.
“We can all use more hope in our lives,” said Lysakovsky. “I think this is a great way to help provide it.”
Women of Hope is being held at First Baptist Church, 759 Prince St. on Saturday, March 7 from 2-4 p.m. There is no charge to attend but people are asked to preregister by emailing ruth@ fbct.ca or calling 902-8934241.
