A Truro tradition

Santa Claus parade brings Winter Wonderland to Downtown Truro

- BY SAM MADORE

This year, the Downtown Truro Partnership is hosting the alwayspopular Santa Claus parade in its traditional format. With a few slight changes due to public health and safety protocols, the streets of Downtown Truro will once again be sprinkled with the magic of the holiday season.

“We are excited to be able to see the community spirit in person again this year,” says Roberts. “I can remember being a part of this parade when I was young. It’s a long-standing family tradition for many.”

The parade begins at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 28 and attendees are being asked to physically distance themselves along the parade route, and are strongly encouraged to wear masks.

Candy and other giveaways will not be permitted this year due to health and safety concerns, but businesses and organizations are encouraged to find other creative ways to showcase their holiday spirit.

“This year’s theme is winter wonderland,” says Roberts. “I’ve heard some really innovative ideas from entries on how they plan to represent the theme. I can’t wait to see the creativity they put into the floats and the support they get from those who come out to watch.”

There are lots of ways to incorporate this winter wonderland theme, from snowy trees to ice sculptures to festive music. Each float will be judged by a panel of local celebrity judges in five categories, including best theme, most original, best visual effects, best audio effects and best costumes and people.

The Downtown Truro Santa Claus parade will take place Sunday, Nov. 28, starting from the Colchester Legion Stadium at 4 p.m. Colchester Ground Search and Rescue will once again be providing parade marshalling services, with additional volunteers from the Truro Volunteer Fire Brigade.
