The Truro Bearcats came up a game short of a perfect weekend.

Actually, the team returned from the northern New Brunswick tour with a split, winning in Miramichi and losing in Campbellton.

The Bearcats were down a goal after the first period against the Timberwolves then stormed back in the second with a pair, enough to claim the win.

It was good to see the Bearcats pick up a powerplay goal in the 3-1 win. This part of the special team has struggled to date.

In Campbellton, Sunday afternoon, the hometown Tigers scored four in the first period and two in the final frame.

Truro responded in the middle period with their only goal in the game. It wasn’t a game they wish to see repeated.

The Tigers were on the board before the first minute lapsed. Along the way, they scored three powerplay goals.

In that Olympic-sized arena, it’s best not to provide a man advantage to the opponent.

Let the scoresheet show the Bearcats took five penalties in the final period. That’s not a good plan if trying to create a full-scale comeback.

The Bearcats came into the week in the fourth spot in the South Division and looking to play a home-andhome set with the Division’s second-placed team, the Yarmouth Mariners.

The Mariners are at the RECC for a 7 p.m. game Friday while the Mariners host the Bearcats at 7:30 p.m. in Yarmouth on Saturday.

This constitutes the first meeting of the season between the hardened rivals; however, by the time the Christmas break arrives, they will have three more meetings.

The Mariners have a couple of their top scorers back from last year, complementing an experienced blueline corps.

The Annual Teddy Bear Toss in support of the Christmas Index is scheduled for Wednesday, Dec. 1, when the Mariners are back in town.

Again, this year, the Bible Hill Kinsmen and Bearcats seek your support and ask that you deposit the Teddy Bears in bags upon entry to the arena.
