TRURO, N.S.- A Salmon River man charged in a hit and run accident involving injuries is to be sentenced on Dec. 29 after changing his plea to guilty in provincial court on Wednesday (Nov. 25) on two counts of impaired driving causing bodily harm.

Adrian George Arthur Lively, 44, of East Prince Street, was charged following a two-vehicle collision on Aug. 20.

Two individuals in the other vehicle sustained significant injuries after their vehicle was struck from behind. The accident involved a Volkswagen Golf that was rear-ended by a darkcoloured pickup truck.

The RCMP said at the time the truck did not make any attempt to stop or render assistance to the occupants of the Volkswagen.

Crown attorney Alison Brown told Judge Rosalind Michie that she and defence lawyer Kevin Burke will be presenting a joint sentencing recommendation on Dec. 29, although a formal pre-sentence report (PSR) will not be forthcoming.

“I spoke with Judge (Al) Bégin on this matter, he is aware that there will be a joint recommendation, he is aware of what the joint recommendation is and has agreed that Mr. Burke can provide an informal PSR, if you will,” Brown said.

Lively had been facing a total of five charges, however, two counts of dangerous operation of a motor vehicle and one count of failing to stop after an accident resulting in bodily harm are to be dropped at the time of sentencing.

Lively had initially pleaded not guilty to all the charges with the intention of being tried in Nova Scotia Supreme Court.
