TRURO — Truro’s Atlantic Superstore collected the highest total donations of any store in Nova Scotia during a February Loblaw fundraising campaign that raised $1.86 million nationally in support of President’s Choice Children’s Charity.

The Truro store raised $9,500 between Feb. 10 and 27.

Eight schools in the Truro area will benefit, including Truro Junior High School, Bible Hill Elementary School, Ecole Acadienne de Truro and others in neighbouring communities, as well as the Boys and Girls Club of Truro and Colchester.

President’s Choice Children’s Charity is Canada’s largest charitable provider of school meal programs, reaching 10 per cent of all school-age children across the country, as well as operating the Power Full Kidstm program, which combines daily meals and snacks with new food skills education.

Nova Scotians donated more than $145,000 during the campaign, highlighting the incredible generosity in the province. Funds raised will help President’s Choice Children’s Charity deliver food programs across Nova Scotia.

In 2021, the charity reached more than 23,000 children in Nova Scotia at more than 120 schools and other program locations.

“We know that hungry kids experience more anxiety, miss more school, and disrupt their class more often,” said Lisa Battistelli, executive director, President’s Choice Children’s Charity. “A child should never have to carry the burden caused by hunger, so we’re working to reach vulnerable children with food — wherever they’re learning.”

Nova Scotia schools can apply to participate in the charity’s Power Full Kids meal program between May 1 and June 24. Program requirements and application information can be found on the PCCC website (pcchildrenscharity.ca).
