It’s decision time for Bearcats

Four games over five nights is a full dose of hockey.

When the dust settled, the Bearcats came out of it with a split. More important, though, was their play and effort throughout that stretch.

The Bearcats played before a full house in Edmundston. The Blizzard scored two in the opening frame and road that to a 2-1 win.

The next night in Grand Falls, the Bearcats and Rapid traded first period goals, then Truro scored a pair, with no reply, to pick up the victory.

Winning in that region is never easy, but a bounce here or there, could have given Truro a pair of wins. That’s the way it goes.

Friday, in Berwick, the Wildcats jumped to a twogoal lead which the Bearcats couldn’t manage to overcome. The 3-1 loss came in a game the Bearcats wanted.

Saturday, at the RECC, the Bearcat – Crusher rivalry was back on. It was another one of their tight matchups, this time the verdict going to the Bearcats who broke it open in the final stanza.

PLAYING CATCH-UP HOCKEY

For sure, it was a full week. Truro’s goaltending, veteran leadership and commitment to script were all on display.

In each game, however, the opposition scored first. Playing catch-up hockey doesn’t constitute a good plan but can show resilience.

The final week of regulation play is here. For the Bearcats they have four games remaining before they wrap things up next Sunday.

Scheduled first is the Tuesday game in Truro against the Valley Wildcats. This is their fifth meeting after splitting the previous four.

Wednesday, again at the RECC, Truro hosts the Grand Falls Rapid. They know what to expect in this one.

GOING TO AMHERST

Saturday, the Bearcats make the trip to Amherst. They smoked the Ramblers in the last meeting. This one should be hotly contested.

Sunday, the Miramichi Timberwolves are slated to be at the RECC for a 6 p.m encounter. Truro won their previous meeting back in November.

In the North Division, the top four teams have clinched playoff berths. That’s not the case in the South.

There’s plenty at stake this week. It’s called post-season hockey.
