Bearcats eliminate Ramblers

Playoff hockey is at its best when the result is in doubt, if you can stand the suspense.

In the Bearcats-ramblers series there was plenty of doubt and suspense.

After the Bearcats won the opener in OT on the road, they came home to win Game 2 in double OT. In that one, the Bearcats looked like a shutout was in store with five minutes left in the game, leading by three.

Leads don’t come with guarantees, the Ramblers tied it before things were settled in Truro’s favour early in the second extra session.

The Ramblers and Bearcats traded goals in Game 3 before the hometown Ramblers potted a pair to earn their win.

In Thursday’s home game, the Bearcats scored two in the second and never looked back to take a commanding 3 -1 series lead.

The Bearcats wrapped the series up in Amherst. It required three third period goals to get it done.

Many may consider this series win a bit of an upset, the Bearcats won’t accept that. They felt they matched up well and went into it a confident group.

It’s hard to compare editions of Bearcats over their 25-year existence. This is not necessarily the best edition, but they play the team game with the best we’ve had.

Throughout the playoffs, it’s clear the top eight teams made the grade. No series has been an easy one to date.

We didn’t come this far, only to come this far. Motivation and setting goals are about life.

Every year the Bearcat goal is to make the playoffs, then see what happens. Well, they’ve done it for 25 years. Now they’re off to the divisional final. It’s all about this next goal that matters now.

It doesn’t matter whom they play. It’s all about continuing to win. Win four more, you’re in the League finals.

Win four beyond that, you book your ticket to Estevan.

The bottom line is simple, and it starts again this week, this time against the Valley Wildcats.
