Cougar Dome welcomes Marijke Nel

The Cougar Dome is set to welcome a special addition for its upcoming tennis program with guest coach Marijke Nel – technical director with Tennis Nova Scotia.

A former NCAA Division 1 player with both the University of Texas and Kansas State University, Nel was then recruited to play for a club in the German summer league and still plays in the Regionalli­ga during NONCOVID times.

Nel has been involved in provincial coaching since 2008 and in the technical director role since 2013. She holds Coach #2 and Club Pro #2 certificat­ions and is in the process of completing her Club Pro #3 course.

The Dome’s next cycle of tennis programmin­g, for both youth and adults, starts April 4.

Tuesdays: 4 - 5 p.m. – Youth PDP, 5 - 6 p.m. – Orange Ball (U-10), 6 - 7 p.m. – Advanced Doubles Strategy, and 7 – 8 p.m. – Cardio Tennis.

Wednesdays: 4 - 5 p.m. – Red Ball (age 6+), 5 - 6 p.m. – youth recreation­al, 5 – 6 p.m. – Red/ Orange Ball (ages 10+), 6-7 p.m. – Red/orange/green Ball (ages 12+ - families and adults too), 7-8 p.m. – adults 3.5/4.0 singles strategy.

Saturday, April 22 (classes depend on minimum registrati­on numbers): 9 - 10 a.m. – Red Ball (age 6+), 10 - 11 a.m. – Red/orange Ball (ages 10+), 11 a.m.-12 p.m. – Red/orange/ Green Ball (ages 12+ - families and adults too), 1-3 p.m. – advance doubles clinic – one-day event.

Saturday, April 29 (classes depend on minimum registrati­on numbers): 9 - 10 a.m. – Red Ball (age 6+), 10 - 11 a.m. – Red/orange Ball (ages 10+), 11 a.m.-12 p.m. – Red/orange/ Green Ball (ages 12+ - families and adults too).

COME TRY PICKLEBALL

You may have heard about how fun and how popular pickleball has become. If you would like to come out and give it a try, now is the perfect time.

All levels of experience and abilities are welcome. Come by yourself or with others. You will meet new people and be able to play with them. It provides a social way to have fun and get good exercise.

Month-long membership­s are available for $65 (including tax), which gives you unlimited access to up to eight pickleball courts. If you are interested in becoming a longer-term pickleball member, there are longerterm membership­s available to meet your needs.

Come to the Dome to give pickleball a try … you’ll be glad you did.
