Truro youth a multi-sport talent

Maddox Murphy's interest in sports has lead him down multiple paths.

At 11 years old, Murphy plays hockey, baseball, and also soccer in school. He took some time to answer a few of our questions.

Q: How old were you when you first started playing sports? Murphy: I think, six.

Q: Aside from baseball, what other sports do you play?

Murphy: Hockey, soccer a little bit at school. In the summer there’s this tournament for ball hockey and I play that too.

Q: What’s your favorite subject in school?

Murphy: Ah, probably Gym.

Q: What’s your favorite sports movie?

Murphy: Champions.

Q: What’s your favorite sports memory?

Murphy:

When I hit an inside the park home run this year for baseball.

Q: What is your favorite part about being in a team?

Murphy: Meeting new friends, playing with my friends.

Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be?

Murphy: Speed.

Q: What’s your favorite position to play in baseball?

Murphy: Catcher. Because it’s really fun.

Q: Your mom tells me that you love music and

can often be heard belting out songs throughout

the house. So I have to ask, what songs to you like to sing?

Murphy:

I don’t know, probably “Something In The Orange”. It’s a country song.

Q: What might be something about you that not many people know about you, any hidden talents?

Murphy:

Probably not a lot of people know I play guitar.

Q: You are a member of Impact Performanc­e gym here in Truro, explain to me what your training program is like?

Murphy:

We usually start off with a warmup. And we do stretches, jumping stuff. Squat rack sometimes. Curls and that’s basically it.

Q: If you could create your own MLB Dream team with any players past or present, who would be on your team?

Murphy:

Vladimir Guerrero Jr (TBJ), Bo Bichette (TBJ), Aaron Judge (NYY), Derek Jeter (NYY) and my last one would be Alejandro Kirk (TBJ).

Q: Your brother Malky also plays baseball and hockey, what’s the best advice he’s ever given you?

Murphy:

Just a couple nights ago he was helping me with my batting stance and pitching.

Q: Do you have any nicknames? If so, can you tell me how you got that nickname?

Murphy:

Yeah, Mad Dog because my name starts with Mad.
