It’s down to the wire for the Bearcats

The final week of regular season play is here and there’s plenty yet to be determined in the Eastlink South Division.

The Bearcats played two games last week, losing both, putting themselves on thin ice.

On Wednesday, the meeting between Truro and Amherst was a must win situation. The Ramblers won it at the RECC.

A few too many turnovers, whether forced or unforced did the Bearcats in. Too much individual play added to it.

Thursday, in Summerside, the Bearcats played a much better team game but came up short.

Those were losses the Bearcats didn’t need coming into March. The club has three games remaining, and spots two-through-four in the Standings are still open.

The Bearcats need to win their games and look for significant losses to others to carry them into playoffs.

As it stands now, the Bearcats, coming into this week, have 53 points in fifth spot. Ahead of them are Pictou County (54), Amherst (57) and Yarmouth (58). One of them will be eliminated from post season action.

First up is the Bearcat home game against the West Kent Steamers, formally the South Shore Lumberjacks. That team is second in the North, and third overall in the MHL, and a shootout winner over Truro in October.

Prior to that game, local charitable organizations will receive funding from the Bible Hill Kinsmen – Truro Bearcat Power play partnership. Over the first twenty years, $91,000 has been distributed.

Friday, the Bearcats will be in Yarmouth, to face the Mariners, who have won four of the previous seven meetings.

Saturday, the Bearcats wrap up their schedule when they host the Pictou County Crushers. The season could come down to the results of this game.

Pictou County play out their schedule Sunday, in Valley.
