Caspi returns to Wolfville

Singer/songwriter Shawna Caspi, who is based in Toronto, will be stopping in Wolfville on Saturday, April 4.

She will play at the Wolfville Farmers’ Market in the morning and at Night Kitchen at the Al Whittle Theatre in the evening.

Caspi is touring across Canada to support her latest album, Apartments for Lovers. She played at the Deep Roots Music Festival last fall.

Hear the Alleluia

At 7 p.m. in Convocatio­n Hall, the Acadia University Chorus will present a concert entitled Hallelujah on Thursday, April 9. Join the Acadia University Chorus, directed by Michael Caines, for their annual spring concert, this year entitled ‘Alleluia!’ Joining the chorus will be John Scott, university organist. They are performing works by Z. Randall Stroope, August Soderman, Stephen Paulus, Ralph Manuel, Linda Spevacek, Thomas LaVoy, and Dietrich Buxtehude. Admission at the door is $10.

On stage in Berwick

On April 11, Susan Crowe and Cindy Church will play the Union Street Café in Berwick, followed on April 25 by The Kickin’ Mule Blues Band.

At Fundy Film

Fundy Film screens Fundy Film screens Ballet 422 on April 1: From first rehearsal to world premiere, this documentar­y goes backstage at the New York City Ballet to watch an up-and-coming choreograp­her craft a new work. With unpreceden­ted access to an elite world, the film illuminate­s the process behind the creation of a single ballet. Wednesday, April 1: 7 p.m. Fundy Film screens Boychoir on April 5: François Girard’s (The Red Violin) dra- ma tells of an orphaned 12-year-old boy, sent to a boarding school where he struggles to join an elite choir. No one expects this rebellious loner to excel, least of all the school’s relentless­ly tough conductor (Dustin Hoffman), who enters into a battle of wills to bring out the boy’s extraordin­ary musical gift. Sunday, April 5, Monday, April 6: 7 pm only, All screenings are at the Al Whittle Theatre in Wolfville.

Jazz trio in Greenwich

A Celtic jazz trio will be performing at the Stems Cafe at Blomidon Nurseries, Greenwich on Sundays from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. the trio will perform April 5,12,19, 26.

The performers will be Johanne McInnis on harp, Corey Bayer on bass and Alex Porter on percussion.

MacKay takes part in panel

Kings County writer Ami MacKay, along with other Atlantic Canadian writers, will take part in a literary evening on Tuesday, April 7 at Paul O’Regan Hall, Halifax Central Library, Halifax.

Beginning at 7 p.m., the evening is a fundraiser in support of the Atlantic Book Awards Society. Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at the door.

Other authors include John Tattrie, Valerie Compton, and Alexander MacLeod. The 2015 Atlantic Book Awards & Festival takes place May 7-14.

Puppets are art

Grow with Art is an art education and appreciati­on program for children aged five to 14. Upcoming workshop leaders is Struan Robertson from Mermaid Theatre on April 11.

Workshops run on the first Saturday of each month from 1-3 p.m. at the Kingstec campus of the Nova Scotia Community College in Kentville. The cost is $2 per workshops.

Annual dinner theatre

CentreStag­e Theatre in Kentville has its annual dinner theatre taking place April 17 - 19 at 6 p.m.

Come and enjoy the fun when a meeting of the Temperance Society goes “awry” (or rum-te-tum) in the musical Temperance in a Teacup. The Temperance meetings will be held on April 17, 18 and 19th in the Temperance Hall in Upper Performanc­e Centre. The hall will open its doors at 6: 15 and the meeting will begin at 6:30 with appetizers. The evening will include a roast beef four course dinner.

The Hallelujah Girls

Hilarity abounds when the feisty females of Eden Falls, Georgia, decide to shake up their lives.

The next comedy at CentreStag­e Theatre in Kentville runs April 24, 25, May 1, 2, 8, 9, 10m, 15, 16, 22, 23, 24m, 29, 30.

Showtime is 8 p.m. with a 2 p.m. matinee on May 10 and 24. Tickets $15/$12 (Call 902-678-8040).

The Hallelujah Girls is written by Jessie Jones, Nicholas Hope, and Jamie Wooten. It is directed by George Henry and Peter Booth.

Cast includes: Carole Ball, Heidi Price, Dawn Barkhouse, Trinda Ernst, Mindy Vinqvist-Tymchuk, Chantal Murphy, Kevin Pearle and Fred Decker.
