Fred Penner delights Kentville crowd

A gymnasium full of Kings County Academy students were clapping along with and singing along to a very special musical performance March 27 by Fred Penner.

The mid-day performance comes through Penner’s busy Atlantic tour.

The Canadian performer said after all the years performing it’s the audience that makes the show.

“That’s the bottom line. It’s always been the audience,” Penner said. “If they didn’t feel connected or if I didn’t feel that they were connected there wouldn’t be any point in doing this.”

The 68-year-old musician said people continue to like what he’s doing so there is no reason to stop.

“I started doing this because it was my bliss, my need, somehow to perform,” he said. “To bring my music forward, and share it with the people.”

Donna Rhodenizer, KCA’s music teacher, said the students were over-the top excited for the performance.

“To know that Fred Penner was coming to sing for them personally, that had a lot of them very

halfway excited,” said Rhodenizer, who also is well-known local children’s singer.

“Music in general is one of the most amazing tools that we have to teach our children.”

Penner performed later that night at Mermaid Theatre in Windsor.
