Port Williams
This year the Port Williams Library has been encouraging kids ages three to five to “Wriggle on in” to their Bookworms Preschool Storytime to hear stories, sing, play games and have lots of fun. The program began in the fall and runs every Friday from 10:30-11:30 a.m.“The most important part of storytime is for kids to learn that the library is a fun and welcoming, engaging place to be, said Lori Cameron. She said that the program supports parents as they foster early literacy in their children, “because literacy isn’t just about reading but also playing and talking and singing. And the library is such a good place to do all of those things.”
The morning’s theme was movement featuring Doreen Cronin’s books Bounce and Stretch. Julie Embree, mother of Wesley, appreciates this opportunity to encourage her son’s love of reading. This week’s theme will be dinosaurs and participants will be stomping and roaring all over the library.
The Port Williams United Baptist Church book club will meet April 8 at 7 p.m. to discuss the Time Keeper by Mitch Albom. This week’s special location is the Port Williams Library, where participants will learn about the library’s services including downloadable audiobooks and ebooks and Book Club in a Bag. This group is open to everyone in the church and community.
The Port Williams and District Lions Club will celebrate the 45th Anniversary of its Charter Presentation with a dinner featuring Jimmie Lamb’s BBQ pork and a dance with live music by The Groove Kings commencing at 6:30 p.m. April 11 at the Port Williams Community Centre.
