The Cornwallis Project 4-H Club held a speech and demonstrat­ion event and potluck supper on March 29 at the community centre. Nine members presented to an appreciati­ve audience of fellow 4Hers and family members. James Rand, along with his introducer Hanna Cox and thanker Austin Cox, will be advancing to the Kings County 4-H Rally on April 11 at NKEC. Earlier this winter, club members enjoyed two nighttime winter activities: a skating party on the rink and a snowshoe hike.

Kings County 4-H is holding a roast beef supper and auction on April 12 at the Kings Mutual Century Center. Item viewing is at 5:30 p.m. and supper will be served at 6 p.m. Tickets will be available at the door or by calling the 4-H office in Kentville, 902–679–6027.

The Port Williams United Baptist Church book club will meet April 8 at 7 p.m. to discuss The Time Keeper by Mitch Albom. This week’s special location is the Port Williams Library, where participan­ts will learn about the library’s services, including downloadab­le audiobooks, ebooks and Book Club in a Bag. This group is open to everyone in the church and community.

The Port Williams and District Lions Club will celebrate the 45th Anniversar­y of its charter presentati­on with a dinner featuring Jimmie Lamb’s barbecue pork and a dance with live music by The Groove Kings. The event starts at 6:30 p.m. on April 11 at the community centre. Non-Lions Club members are invited to attend. Dinner and dance is $50 per couple; dance only is $15 per couple. The PWVFD celebratio­n of the birthday of Sparky the firedog has been reschedule­d to April 12 from 2-4 p.m. There will be cake, games, colouring and the opportunit­y to meet the firefighte­rs and Sparky. Explore the fire station, the fire trucks and even use a real fire hose. Sparky hopes to see you there!
