Kings County’s own countrysinging sensation Matt Balsor has been inducted into the Nova Scotia Country Music Hall of Fame.

Balsor, known for his country covers that harken back to country music from the 60s, 70s and 80s, has performed for thousands of fans with artists like Larry Gatlin, a star of Nashville’s Grand Ole Opry. He says he felt overwhelmed when he heard the news.

“I experienced many emotions — excitement, surprise, and gratitude, to name a few,” says Balsor.

The singer is a 20-year industry veteran and a former hall of fame vice- president. He has chased his dream of singing country music because he feels the art gives people more than pretty melodies and catchy lyrics.

“Country music... tells a story. I’ve always gravitated toward ballads because of their ability to pull at your heartstrings and take the listener on an emotional journey of love, loss, and heartbreak,” says Balsor.

Hall of fame president Roger T. Bleasdale says one of many reasons Balsor was chosen as an inductee this year is his many Kings County followers that follow him to shows across the province.

“( Balsor) sings traditional country music, like George Jones or Merle Haggard — those classic songs that people love and relate to,” says Bleasdale.

“He chooses songs that speak to people. He really includes them in his concerts, and as well as an excellent singer is excellent when it comes to his rapport with the audience.”

Balsor will celebrate 20 years in the music business with a concert Nov. 4 at the Old Or- chard Inn, where he’ll be joined by his Hilltop Show Band, performing songs and sharing stories from the past two decades. He will also release a new gospel album that night featuring his most popular song, Mansion Over the Hilltop.

Balsor is also looking forward to the Sept. 15 induction ceremony and can’t wait to share the night with his fellow nominees, family and friends.

“I am truly honoured to be recognized for my contributions to our genre... I hope that my journey will encourage others to work hard and follow their dreams,” he says.

He has some words of wisdom for others looking to make a career out of music: keep it simple.

“Find what works for you and learn how to do it very well. Offer something different but remain true to yourself,” he says.

Tickets are currently for sale for the anniversary show at Forsyth Farm Market in Berwick, Surf Restaurant in Hantsport, and by phoning 902- 300- 0375. For more information on Matt Balsor, visit his website, www. mattbalsor.com.
