One dead, two injured following head-on collision in Mill Section

Motorists looking to take Chester Road faced a long detour Aug. 24 as they were rerouted due to a serious motor vehicle accident in Mill Section.

Firefighte­rs, paramedics and RCMP officers were called out to the scene around 2:10 p.m.

Deputy fire chief Paul Maynard, of the Hantsport Fire Department, said firefighte­rs from Brooklyn, Hantsport, and Southwest Hants stations responded to the call.

The accident involved a head-on collision between two vehicles on Highway 14.

“We had to perform extricatio­n on both vehicles. There were three patients in total,” said Maynard.

RCMP confirmed at 6:15 p.m. that one person involved in the accident died. Details on the extent of the injuries sustained by the other people is unknown at this time, however, Life Flight landed at the Vaughan helipad and transporte­d one of the patients to the QEII hospital.

Detours remained in place until a collision analysist had the chance to investigat­e the accident.
