The Windsor Knights are still on cloud nine after winning the 2018 Nova Scotia Intermediate Baseball League Championship Aug. 26.
Windsor Knights player/ manager Jason Hanes said, “it was far from easy but ( I’m) still absolutely delighted,”
The win marked their first NSIBL championship title.
In a marathon championship game, the Knights squeezed out a 14- inning, 3- 2 win over the Sherose Island Schooners.
Derek Hart doubled for the Knights in the bottom of the 14th and Paul Humphreys delivered a game- winning RBI single to provide the Knights with their win and the 2018 championship.
Dave Swindall pitched five innings to start the championship, but Humphreys relieved him in the sixth and threw the final eight innings to earn the win in relief.
“Our youth movement provided great dividends in 2018 after some bumps and bruises the past couple of seasons,” Hanes said. “To see the Knights on top after seeing Hantsport and Noel Road being the dominant teams over the past 10 years or so was a special feeling.”
The Knights lost only once all weekend and that came against Sherose Island by a score of 3- 0. Earlier in the tournament, they beat the Pictou County Royals
