Beer, hiking and laughter is what helps make the annual Falmouth TrALE Run a smashing success each year.

Kathy Johnston- Isenor, the owner of Fitness Junkies, which hosts the event, said this year’s event is going to be even better than the previous two.

“I’m really excited because we keep building on the success of the year previously,” said JohnstonIsenor.

“This year, we’re adding in our own signature TrALE Run pizza — supplied by Magic Pizza.”

The barbecue chicken pizza, which will have sauce and crust infused with Schoolhouse Brewery beer, will be served following the Sept. 29 event.

The 3 p.m. Falmouth TrALE Run is once again being held at Castle Frederick Farms in Falmouth and offers participants the option to do a five-kilometre hike or a 10-kilometre hike. Along the route, there will be alcoholic samples available.

There will be beer, wine and cider to choose from, with Schoolhouse Brewery, Roof Hound Brewing Company, Sid’s Cider and Bent Ridge Winery & Bent Nail Brewery participating.

Johnston-Isenor said the purpose of the run is to have an enjoy- Participants share a toast at one of the drink stations during the 2017 Falmouth TrALE Run. Event organizers are hoping to see at least 130 people attend this year’s event.

able event that highlights what’s available locally, not something to leave participants intoxicated.

“We serve four-ounce samples at each station so in the end, if you’re participating in the 5K run, that’s just over one full beer,” said Johnston-Isenor.

“We take safety very seriously. We have lots of options for local cabs. We promote designated drivers. We give prizes away to desig-

nated drivers who come out on the day,” she added.

Jenny LaPierre, of Brooklyn, participated in the run last year and is volunteering this year. She said she highly recommends the event.

“It’s getting out with a bunch of friends to enjoy some cold drinks and some exercise and laughs,” said LaPierre.

She said it’s an ideal outing for adults of all fitness levels.

“It could be challenging if you make it challenging but it could be a nice leisurely walk through the woods. The scenery is beautiful; it’s just breath-taking some of the views that you get from along the trail,” she said.

Registration for the afternoon event is available online at Race Roster until the day before the event, but participants can still sign up at the last minute at the

farm.

Johnston-Isenor is hoping to see at least 130 people come out; 80 people have registered already. In 2017, they had about 150 people attend.

Johnston-Isenor said the event is not timed, allowing participants to take the course at their own pace.

“We just want everyone to take their time, enjoy the beer at each station — or wine or cider — and that way, everybody just really enjoys themselves,” said JohnstonIsenor.

“Ninety per cent of our participants hike instead of run. If you don’t want to run, you don’t have to. It’s having fun for yourself.”

Participants must be of legal drinking age as of Sept. 29, 2018.
