The fifth annual Hantsport Music Festival was a smashing success.

With the support of the community and dozens of sponsors, this year’s festival made a total of $32,778.96.

Event organizer Kevin Guptell was excited to be able to give it all back to the community on Aug. 25. For him, giving back is what it’s all about.

After thanking the festival’s many sponsors, members of the Hantsport Music Festival’s board of directors handed out six cheques totalling $31,578.96. The groups that received the cheques are: the Hantsport Historical Society, the Hantsport Home and School Association, the Hantsport Shamrocks, the Hantsport Minor Ball Association, the Hantsport Memorial Community Centre, and the Hantsport and Area Foodbank. A donation of $1,200 was also made to the 106 Air Cadets for their support and the role they played in the festival.

The five-year grand total raised and donated from the festivals is $132,658.96. Hantsport resident Layton Cuvilier, 16, took a few moments to thank HMCC and the community for making him a summer athlete. He played on the U17 provincial baseball team and won bronze, which was a first for the team in 23 years.

With this year being the festival’s most successful to date, the planning of next year’s event is well underway. Six out of seven bands have already been booked for the 2019 festival, and organizers are starting to make plans for 2020. With a big thank you from event organizer Kevin Guptell, two members of the 106 Air Cadets received a donation of $1,200 for their help with the festival. During the July event, the cadets collected and sorted all of the bottles and cans, totalling $288.50, as well as took care of all the garbage generated at the venue.
