Colby Clark, Annapolis Valley Chamber of Commerce president:
“The Cannabis industry is expected to be worth $6.8 billion by 2020, which is almost as large as the wine industry at $7 billion. Canadian businesses are well positioned to take advantage of this watershed moment and become global industry leaders in cultivation, wholesale/retail, value added, tourism, medical applications, research, consulting, etc. Canada is becoming the second country to legalize the recreational use of cannabis which allows our businesses to have a firstmover advantage in a budding industry (pun intended).
Given provincial governments have the ability to control distribution, some provinces will have a greater business opportunity than others. Nova Scotia has decided to not allow private retail outlets but we have seen investment on the production side. A local example is Auxly Cannabis Group, which is currently constructing a facility in the Kentville Business Park.
The AVCC is looking forward to seeing the industry evolve over the weeks, months and years to come.”
