The Lions Adopt-a-Highway Fall Cleanup took place on Oct. 13 with Lions and community members taking part. The six-member crew picked up trash on both sides of Hwy 358 (and in the ditches) from the bridge to Hwy 1.

The oddest finds were a bag full of leaves and a couch cushion. It is gratifying that there is so much less litter now than in the earlier years of the cleanup and at least part of the reason in our village is that residents like Ken and Barb Pick take the time while they are out walking to pick up garbage. Photos of the team in action can be seen in the Village Photo Gallery at portwilliams.com. Our TOPS group participated as well by cleaning up Hwy 358 from Starrs Pt. Road to Sutton Road during a recent meeting.

Since last week, I have learned that there are other Cornwallis Project members whose projects were either Champion or Reserve Champion at the 4-H Provincial Show. Congratulations to Connor White, who had the champions in both the Simmental Heifer and Beef Calf classes. Hannah King had the Reserve Champion Foods Article, Taylor Hovell had the Champion Junior First Aid Article and Emma Rand won the Giant Vegetable Competition.

The Port Williams Health Auxiliary invites you to a coffee party and display of antique toys on Nov. 3 from 9:30-11:30 a.m. at the Baptist Church. There will be a bake table, a “touch and take” table, Christmas decorations and frozen entrees — all for a freewill offering.

The inaugural meeting of the Port Williams History Committee will be Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. in the board room of the community centre. It is open to everyone who is interested in preserving and sharing the history of our village. If you are interested in getting involved but are unable to attend, please contact Sylvia Jacquard at sylviajacquard@ns.sympatico.ca.
