Ro­ley Gor­don Phillips, of Hal­ibur­ton Place, passed away on Nov. 15, 2018. Born in Sweet’s Cor­ner on Nov. 1, 1920, he was the son of the late Mur­ray and Min­nie (Wile) Phillips. He was a long-time em­ployee of the Fundy Gyp­sum Com­pany and re­tired in 1982 as the com­pany’s elec­tri­cal su­per­vi­sor. He was a mem­ber and elder of Sweet’s Cor­ner United Church and was in­volved with the Boy Scouts. He en­joyed sev­eral hob­bies, in­clud­ing har­ness rac­ing at the Hal­i­fax Com­mons, Wind­sor Track and Sackville Downs. He also loved fish­ing, golf­ing, bowl­ing and carv­ing. He is sur­vived by his chil­dren, Ca­role Et­tinger of Lake­side; Paulette Phillips of Mon­treal; Bev­er­ley (Wayne) Shanks of Up­per Fal­mouth; Chris (Jim Barker) of Po­plar Grove; Mark (Kathy) Phillips of Gyp­sum Mines; son-in-law Steven Frizzell (Jean­nie Rogers) of Gyp­sum Mines; sev­eral grand­chil­dren, great-grand­chil­dren and great-great-grand­chil­dren. Be­sides his par­ents, Ro­ley was pre­de­ceased by his wife of 78 years in Jan­uary 2018, Beu­lah (Cochrane); daugh­ter, Lor­raine Frizzell; son-in-law, Garth Et­tinger; broth­ers, Scott, Har­ley and Owen. Spe­cial thanks to the staff of Hal­ibur­ton Place for the won­der­ful care they ex­tended to both Dad and Mom. Cre­ma­tion has taken place. No funeral by re­quest.
