Community generosity shines
Fitness Junkies’ annual Ugly Christmas Pyjama Run surpasses organizer’s expectations
Kathy Johnston-Isenor was shivering in the crisp morning air Dec. 1, but her smile was radiating as wave after wave of people showed up to participate in a fundraiser that’s near and dear to her heart.
Each year, Johnston-Isenor, the founder of Fitness Junkies, hosts an Ugly Christmas Pyjama Run in support of the Family Resource Centre — and each year, the event grows.
“I feel amazing. The crowd definitely ballooned from last year and we probably have three times the amount of runners that we had over last year,” said JohnstonIsenor.
The event, held in Windsor on Dec. 1, saw participants don some spectacular holiday fashions as they made their way, walking or running, around the causeway.
Johnston-Isenor had hoped they’d raise at least $400 to $500. They doubled that goal, raising $1,017.25.
“I just have to say a huge ‘thank you’ to the supporters and the community members that came out, of all ages, for making it so much fun,” she said.
“I am blown away with this beautiful community’s generosity.”
There was no cost to participate; all that was asked was to bring a donation, with no suggested amount.
The money raised will be given to the Family Resource Centre to help provide necessary items to families in need at Christmas time.
