A New Year’s Eve personality long missed

With the new year fast approaching, I always remember the great band leader Guy Lombardo and His Royal Canadians, who was very much associated with New Year’s Eve, with his great music referred to as “the sweetest music this side of Heaven.”

Guy used to joke for years that when he died, he was going to take New Year’s Eve with him. I can’t forget what he said because it does not seem quite the same since his passing in the 1970s. It was a golden rule for so many people, including myself: you just did not miss New Year’s Eve on the radio and, years later, his New Year’s Eve television program.

Thank Heaven we are still able to enjoy his music and all the previous memories he left us all.
