Keeping the win streak going
Windsor all-stars claim 2022 Citizen’s Cup at alumni hockey game
Hants County high school rivals took to the ice for the fourth all-star alumni hockey game on March 12 and they didn’t disappoint the fans.
The Hants Exhibition Arena All-Stars alumni hockey team (formerly the Windsor Regional High School Warlords) defeated the Newport District Rink All-Stars alumni hockey team (formerly the Hants
West Flames) 9-3 to win the Citizen’s Cup.
Sponsored by the Windsor Hockey Heritage Society and the West Hants Winter Carnival committee, the game was held at the West Hants Sports Complex with a good crowd on hand to cheer the old-timers on.
Local hockey legend Chook Smith was participated in the ceremonial puck drop at centre ice, and Steve Roe provided the national anthem.
Dan Boyd, the president of the Windsor Hockey Heritage Society, announced the game and presented the Citizen’s Cup to co-captains George Armstrong and Jeff Burgess, of the victorious Windsor team.
It was the Windsor Warlords’ fourth straight win in a series that began in 2019. Dean Woodman and Doug Swinamer, of the winning team, and Aaron Harvey, of the Flames, were named the three stars of the game.
At the game, the organizing committee paid tribute to the late Earl Davis, a longtime hockey announcer of amateur hockey in West Hants. They also honoured the late
Carol Connors, the mother of Ricky and Jeff Connors of the Flames. She was a great
supporter of the West Hants Warriors Minor Hockey Association events in the Brooklyn
area.
The players and fans donated food and cash at the
door, helping the Matthew 25 Windsor and District Food Bank.
