to all the volunteers who helped keep the Valley WAAG Animal Shelter operational for so many years, and to all the people who donated funds or opened their homes, and their hearts, and adopted a loveable feline.

While it was no doubt a difficult decision to close the doors earlier this year, the amount of help that the non-profit organization has provided hopefully gives the group solace.

Their efforts made a difference.

Countless abused, neglected and stray cats were placed into loving forever homes.

In this week’s edition of the Valley Journal Advertiser, we hear from some of the people whose lives changed when they adopted felines from Valley WAAG.

Jenn Hoegg, for example, said it was love at first sight when she spotted a kitten in the shelter’s window.

That was about 18 years ago, and Fortuna runs the household.

Kentville’s Ashley Arenburg was looking for a companion for her senior chihuahua. She found the perfect match when she adopted the last cat at the shelter.

“Now they are napping together in front of the woodstove, greeting each other, and getting along well,” she told the SaltWire Network.

It’s these stories of successful adoptions that makes all the hard work worth it for the volunteers.

Although Valley WAAG has closed, there are still several other animal welfare organizations that are deserving of support, whether that’s with time, donations, or adoptions.

So before purchasing your next pet, consider checking out the local shelters and the SPCA and giving an animal a second chance at a happy life.
