Festival features fun in Kentville

Kentville’s Fire and Ice festival is kicking off this weekend, with the majority of events being free for all to enjoy.

The Kentville Business Community and Town of Kentville are teaming up to provide indoor and outdoor fun leading up to Valentine’s Day.

On Feb. 9, there’s two free events — at 6 p.m. there’s sledding and hot chocolate at Kentville Memorial Park and at 7 p.m., music at St. James Church featuring Zakary

Requiring Miller and Jessie Potter. tickets is a Valentine’s dinner and dance at the Kentville Legion at 6:30 p.m.

On Feb. 10, there’s two free events — a Brilliant Labs pop-up show at the Kentville recreation centre from 1-4 p.m. and a 4:10 p.m. disco public skate at the Kentville Arena. By donation, there’s a Kentville Lion’s Club breakfast starting at 8 a.m at 78 River St. Requiring tickets are four different events. At 11 a.m. and again at 2 p.m., CentreStag­e Theatre is putting on the family-friendly Two Dumb Dogs. From 2-3:30 p.m., Benjamin Bridge Winery is hosting a grapevine wreath making workshop in Kentville’s public garden. At 8 p.m., there’s two dances — a Deep Roots dance at Main Street Station and a Captain Kevin Dance Party at Kings Arms Pub.

On Feb. 11, there is a

demonstrat­ion, mushing workshop and which requires pre-registrati­on, and at 2 p.m. there is a free fat bike ride at the Gorge with AVMBA and led by Banks Bikes.

On Feb. 13, there are two free events — a bird walk with Sarah Foote at Miner’s Marsh from 9- 11 a.m.; and tea and tunes at the Kentville Library at 6:30 p.m. At 7 p.m., the Irish Session Band will be performing at Paddy’s Pub.

On Valentine’s Day, visitors are encouraged to find the ‘heart of downtown’ in Centre Square for a special photo op. There will also be specials throughout the downtown businesses.
