RCMP catch man wanted for alleged assault on Mountie
Officer arrests Colby Bond following vehicle collision in Windsor
A Nova Scotia man wanted for allegedly assaulting an RCMP officer and other offences was arrested in Windsor on Jan. 26, wracking up more charges in the process.
At 7:15 p.m., West Hants District RCMP officers responded to a traffic complaint about a Jeep Wrangler that continued driving after striking a barrier at exit 6 on Highway 101.
Once located in a nearby parking lot on Gray Street, the driver allegedly provided a false name before fleeing on foot.
After apprehending and searching the suspect, police say they found and seized bags containing white powdery residue, a cellphone, cash and a spring-loaded knife.
As a precaution following his collision, officers took the man to the hospital where they learned his real identity — 26-year-old Colby Bond of Enfield — and became aware of his outstanding warrant.
Bond's new charges consist of: obstructing a peace officer; unauthorized possession of a prohibited weapon; three counts of failure to comply with a release order; and possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking.
Bond, who allegedly assaulting an officer in New Minas on Jan. 18, had already been charged with dangerous operation causing bodily harm; refusal to comply with a demand for a breath sample; obstructing a peace officer; flight from a peace officer; assaulting a peace officer with intent; assault with a weapon; possession for the purpose of trafficking; possession of a controlled substance; and two counts of failure to comply with a release order.
He was held in custody and is set to appear in Windsor provincial court on Feb. 6 at 10 a.m.
