Realizing soccer goal

Marin Aucoin to play soccer for Acadia

-

Marin Aucoin won’t have to look far for a familiar face on her new soccer team this fall.

The five-foot-seven central defender is joining her sister Abbey Aucoin with the Acadia Axewomen while pursuing a biology degree.

“I can’t wait to continue both my athletic and academic journeys as an Axewoman,” Marin said in a recent news release. “Playing at the university level has been a goal of mine for a long time and being able to do so at Acadia as a member of such a successful program is even better. I can’t wait to get started.”

She captained her United Dartmouth Football Club (UDFC) team in 2023. She scored eight goals while helping her team finish atop the Nova Scotia Soccer League with a 14-2-2 record. They lost 1-0 to Suburban in the final.

“Marin is a very tidy player who can slow the game down and read the danger early to cut out opponent attacks,” said head coach Amit Batra. “She’s a tough tackler and strong in the air and will be a great addition as a central defender who has the versatility to play in the midfield as well due to her excellent passing range and understanding of the game.”

Aucoin also spent 2021-24 with Whitecaps REX, twice attending the Whitecaps combine in Vancouver. In high school, she was the team captain during her senior year, won the women’s soccer coaches award in Grade 11 and was the Dartmouth High School rookie of the year in Grade 10.

Abbey was recognized in December as Soccer Nova Scotia’s senior player of the year after scoring 16 goals in 12 games for UDFC’s senior AAA team. She helped the Axewomen reach the semifinals and had six goals, including two winners, in 12 regular season games.
