Christophe­r Corbett, 38, of Belmont, has been handed a suspended sentence with probation for two counts of uttering threats to cause bodily harm.

Corbett pleaded guilty to the charges on June 27, 2023. The matters were adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

On Feb. 5, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Corbett a suspended sentence with 24 months of probation on the two charges.

Corbett committed the offences in Ellershous­e on March 22, 2023. Corbett pleaded not guilty to a charge of criminal harassment on June 27, 2023.

FINED FOR ALTERING WETLAND

Derrick Hubert Shaffer of Highway 12, South Alton, has been fined for commencing or continuing an activity without an approval, altering a wetland, contrary to the Environmen­t Act.

Shaffer changed his plea to guilty on April 19, 2023. The matter was adjourned for sentencing. On Feb. 1, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Shaffer $1,000.

ENVIRONMEN­T ACT OFFENCE

Ervin Penner, 44, of Waterville, has been fined for carrying out the burning of designated material without written authorizat­ion, contrary to the Air Quality Regulation­s made pursuant to the Environmen­t Act.

On April 19, 2023, Penner pleaded not guilty to this charge and to a charge of carrying out the burning of municipal solid waste, contrary to the Solid Waste-Resource Management Regulation­s made pursuant to the Environmen­t Act. The matters were adjourned to Feb. 1, 2024, for trial.

Evidence was heard and exhibits entered at the trial, and Penner was found guilty of carrying out the burning of designated material without written authorizat­ion. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek fined Penner $250.

The charge of carrying out the burning of municipal solid waste was dismissed on Feb. 1.
