JAIL TIME FOR BREAK, ENTER, THEFT
Daimek Darren Joseph Walker, 38, of Upper Sackville, has been sentenced to jail time for breaking and entering a residence and committing the indictable offence of theft.
Walker was present in court via video, in custody, on March 28. He re-elected from Supreme to provincial court and changed his plea to guilty.
Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced Walker to six months in custody, consecutive to another sentence presently being served. The court granted a no contact order in relation to two victims. Walker was also sentenced to 18 months of probation.
Walker committed the offence in Kentville on Feb. 14, 2022. Charges of stealing property while using personal violence and two counts of assault were dismissed on March 28.
CONDITIONAL SENTENCE WITH HOUSE ARREST
Adam Eugene Bruce, 41, of North Alton, will serve a period of imprisonment in the community after pleading guilty to three charges.
They include having a blood alcohol concentration that was equal to or exceeded the legal limit within two hours of ceasing to operate a conveyance, thereby causing bodily harm to an individual; operating a conveyance in a manner dangerous to the public; and failing to stop his vehicle as soon as was reasonable in the circumstances while being pursued by a peace officer.
Bruce pleaded guilty to the charges on Jan. 24. The matters were adjourned to March 26 to allow time for a presentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Bruce a 12-month conditional sentence order, including house arrest for the first eight months, to be followed by daily curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the remaining time. Bruce was also sentenced to three years of probation.
The court imposed a threeyear driving prohibition against Bruce and granted a secondary DNA order in relation to the charge of failing to stop his vehicle while being pursued by a peace officer.
Bruce committed the offences in Coldbrook on April 25, 2023. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Bruce's blood alcohol readings were not available.
Two more charges were withdrawn on March 26. They include resisting arrest by refusing to exit his vehicle after being placed under arrest; and failing without reasonable excuse to stop his conveyance, give his name and address, and offer assistance after being involved in an accident.
CONDITIONAL DISCHARGE WITH PROBATION
Jordan Bilsborrow, 21, of Mount Uniacke, has been handed a conditional discharge with probation after being found guilty of four offences.
They include threatening to use a weapon, a knife, in committing an assault; possessing a weapon, a knife, for a purpose dangerous to the public peace at Avon View High School; stealing an individual's phone; and knowingly uttering a death threat.
Bilsborrow pleaded not guilty to the charges on Oct. 4, 2022; stood trial on Jan. 12, 2024 and was found guilty on Jan. 15. The matters were adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.
On April 2, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Bilsborrow a conditional discharge with 18 months of probation on the four charges.
One count of mischief was dismissed on Jan. 12. Bilsborrow was acquitted on another count of mischief and the Crown entered a stay of proceedings on an assault charge on Jan. 15.
Bilsborrow committed the offences in Windsor on May 5, 2022.
