CONDITIONA­L SENTENCE FOR SEXUAL ASSAULT

Charles William Cleveland,

42, of Kingston, will serve a period of imprisonme­nt in the community for committing a sexual assault.

Cleveland pleaded guilty to the charge on Nov. 15, 2023. The matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

On April 3, Judge Christophe­r Manning handed Cleveland a 90-day conditiona­l sentence order with house arrest for the first 45 days, to be followed by daily curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the remaining time. The conditiona­l sentence will be followed by 18 months of probation, including 30 hours of community service work. Cleveland committed the offence in Greenwood on Feb. 9, 2023.

CONDITIONA­L DISCHARGE FOR ASSAULT

Edward Allen Williams, 34, of Three Mile Plains, has been handed a conditiona­l discharge with probation for committing an assault.

Williams pleaded not guilty to the charge on Dec. 13, 2022. A trial began on Nov. 21,

2023, and Williams changed his plea to guilty. The matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

On April 4, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Williams a conditiona­l discharge with 12 months of probation on the assault charge.

Williams had pleaded not guilty to three other charges

included on De c. 13, 2022. They sexual touching, sexual assault, and sexual interferen­ce. On Nov. 21, 2023, the Crown offered no further evidence on these three charges and Williams was acquitted.

FINED FOR IMPAIRED DRIVING

Riley John Blair, 24, of North River, has been fined for having a blood alcohol concentrat­ion that was equal to or exceeded the legal limit within two hours of ceasing to operate a conveyance.

Blair pleaded guilty to the charge on April 3. Judge Christophe­r Manning fined Blair $2,000 and imposed a one-year driving prohibitio­n against him.

Blair committed the offence in Wolfville on Sept. 15, 2023. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Blair gave blood alcohol readings of 180 and 180.

A charge of operating a conveyance while his ability to operate it was impaired by alcohol was withdrawn on April 3.

IMPAIRED DRIVING LEADS TO FINE, PROBATION

Mica Cochrane, 43, of Wolfville, has been fined and sentenced to probation for having a blood alcohol concentrat­ion that was equal to or exceeded the legal limit within two hours of ceasing to operate a conveyance.

Cochrane pleaded guilty to the charge on April 9. Judge Angela Caseley fined Cochrane $2,000; sentenced him to 12 months of probation; and imposed a two-year driving prohibitio­n against him.

Cochrane committed the offence in New Minas on Aug. 27, 2023. The legal blood alcohol limit is 80 mg of alcohol in 100 ml of blood. Cochrane’s blood alcohol readings were not available. A charge of operating a conveyance while his ability to operate it was impaired to any degree by alcohol or a drug or both was withdrawn on April 9.

FINED FOR OHS OFFENCES

Jacob Roderick Teepell, 42, of Dutch Settlement, has been fined for three offences under the Occupation­al Health and Safety Act.

They include failing to comply with a written policy, procedure, plan, or code of practice, to wit, Twin City Electric’s job procedure “Live Installmen­t in a High Voltage Panel”, contrary to the Occupation­al Safety General Regulation­s; performing work on a machine, equipment, tool, or electrical installati­on without meeting requiremen­ts of the Occupation­al Safety General Regulation­s; and failing to use the appropriat­e protective equipment or devices required

energized when working on an electrical installati­on, contrary to the Occupation­al Safety General Regulation­s.

Teepell pleaded guilty to the charges on April 3. Judge Christophe­r Manning fined Teepell $1,000; $2,000; and $2,000 respective­ly on the three charges. Teepell has also been ordered to complete two, one-hour safety presentati­ons.

CONDITIONA­L DISCHARGE FOR ASSAULT

Jessica Leadbetter, 23, of Wolfville, has been handed a conditiona­l discharge with probation for committing an assault.

Leadbetter changed her plea to guilty on April 5. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Leadbetter a conditiona­l discharge with nine months of probation. Leadbetter committed the offence in Hantsport on Feb. 23, 2023.

RELEASE ORDER OFFENCE

Harold Francis Gillis Marriott, 65, of Kentville, has been sentenced to jail time for failing to comply with a condition of a release order, to remain in his residence at all times.

Marriott pleaded guilty to the charge on April 10. Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek sentenced Marriott to seven days in custody. Marriott committed the offence in Kentville on March 31.

CONDITIONA­L SENTENCE ORDER, PROBATION

Brandon Armstrong, 28, of Windsor, has been handed a conditiona­l sentence order and sentenced to probation for failing to stop his motor vehicle as soon as was reasonable in the circumstan­ces while being pursued by a peace officer; operating a conveyance while prohibited from doing so; and assault.

Armstrong pleaded guilty to the two motor vehicle offences on Jan. 10, 2023. The matters were adjourned for sentencing. He was originally charged with assault causing bodily harm but changed his plea to guilty to the lesser, included offence of assault on Nov. 27, 2023. The matter was adjourned to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

On April 15, Judge Ronda Van Der Hoek handed Armstrong a six-month conditiona­l sentence order on the three charges. The conditiona­l sentence includes house arrest for the first four months, to be followed by daily curfew from 11 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the remaining time.

Armstrong was also sentenced to two years of probation on the three charges. The court imposed a two-year driving prohibitio­n in relation to the motor vehicle offences.

Armstrong committed the offences in Hantsport on Dec. 9, 2021, and in Windsor on March 2, 2022.

CONDITIONA­L SENTENCE WITH HOUSE ARREST

Kolby Luke Jordan, 29, of Kentville, will serve a period of imprisonme­nt in the community for two counts of failing to comply with a condition of a probation order. Jordan failed to report to and be under the supervisio­n of a probation officer and to follow their direction; and failed to make restitutio­n to an individual.

Jordan pleaded not guilty to the charges on Aug. 24, 2022. A trial was held on Feb. 6, 2024, and Jordan was found guilty. The matters were adjourned to April 11 to allow time for a pre-sentence report to be prepared and for sentencing.

Judge Angela Caseley handed Jordan a 60-day conditiona­l sentence order, with house arrest for the first 30 days, to be followed by daily curfew from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m. for the remaining time. The conditiona­l sentence will be followed by 12 months of probation. Jordan has been ordered to pay $230 in restitutio­n as a condition of his probation.

Jordan committed the offences in Kentville between Aug. 27 and Nov. 22, 2020; and between Oct. 9, 2019, and Nov. 22, 2020.
