Change­maker The past year’s fen­tanyl cri­sis kicked Janice Ab­bott’s al­ready re­mark­able e¢ciency and eec­tive­ness up another notch. The CEO of Ati­raWomen’s Re­source So­ci­ety has a rep­u­ta­tion for be­ing able to get any project through city coun­cil. This year, she opened a women-only over­dose pre­ven­tion site called Sis­ter space that has beds ded­i­cated to women wait­ing to get into drug treat­ment and those just com­ing out. She also over­saw the open­ing of projects in Rich­mond and Sur­rey, opened a tem­po­rary Van­cou­ver win­ter shelter for women and two new SROs,s pear­headed a na­tional sym­po­sium on women’s hous­ing and was one of two peo­ple named to the Van­cou­ver City Plan­ning Com­mis­sion.
