hop­ing that hav­ing the Greens as the ju­nior part­ner in B.C.’S coali­tion govern­ment would help ki­bosh Site C and en­sure LNG never gets o the dock, the past 17 months have been a pro­found dis­ap­point­ment. An­drew Weaver’s de­ci­sion to prop up the NDP, de­spite its re­ver­sal on both megapro­jects, has many ques­tion­ing what, if any­thing, would cause the Greens to bring down the govern­ment. When LNG Canada an­nounced a $40-bil­lion in­vest­ment in B.C. in early Oc­to­ber, Weaver in­di­cated the Greens would not sup­port any en­abling leg­is­la­tion—though the Lib­er­als were ex­pected to, keep­ing the plan alive. For now, the trained cli­mate sci­en­tist and his two Green MLAS are pin­ning hopes on this fall’s elec­toral re­form ref­er­en­dum—one part of the Ndp-green agree­ment that has been hon­oured.
