Capilano University staff encouraged to wear fleece

Capilano University is giving free blankets to employees in an effort to conserve energy during the winter cold snap.

The Get Ur Fleece On campaign started in December and the university says it’s distributed 200 blankets at its North Vancouver campus so far. That number will grow when the campaign spreads to regional campuses in early February.

Employees are wrapping their blankets around their shoulders, lap or feet while at their desks, and turning off space heaters, the university said in a release. BC Hydro and Fortisbc are helping Cap U provide the blankets, which are made from 100- percent recycled material.

“We have continued to have an overwhelming response to this initiative and await another shipment to keep up with demand at all our campuses,” said energy manager Laura Williams. “The energy management team is providing a fleece blanket free of charge to any employee, who is then encouraged to hand in their space heaters.”
