Friends and family of a prominent local DJ are turning to the public for help after not having heard from him since early Tuesday morning.

Mike Grefner, 34, was last seen arriving at Garfinkel’s nightclub in Whistler around midnight, according to friends. Between 4 and 5: 15 a. m., a heavily inebriated Grefner “drunk dialed” at least three friends. He appeared to be in good spirits then, they said.

Grefner has not been heard from since.

He was reported missing on Wednesday when he failed to show up to work at Whistler’s Maxx Fish nightclub, where he is a resident DJ.

Missing a gig is very uncharacteristic of him, according to friend Robert Gorcak.

“It’s not possible that he would miss a DJ gig,” he said.

“I’ve known him for seven years and that’s not something he would do. He’s meticulous when it comes to things like that. DJ- ing music is his life.”

Grefner had been staying at a friend’s place in Whistler. His belongings had been left behind at the home.

Grefner, who travels between Vancouver and Whistler often for DJ gigs, is a “super- optimist,” said Gorcak. “He’s a very positive, karma kind of guy.”

Grefner is about six feet two inches tall ( 188 cm) and 180 pounds ( 81 kg), with curly brown hair, green eyes and stubbly facial hair. He was last seen wearing faded jeans with crosses stitched on the back pockets, a navy blue T- shirt and a black, military- style hat. He has no tattoos or piercings. Anyone with information is asked to call Whistler RCMP at 604- 9323044.
