Offer teachers the same deal as Ontario or Alberta
Teachers should receive an increase in pay, but to do so, they, as have other public sector unions, must agree to efficiencies ( cost reductions) to offset the increase in wages.
One way would be to adopt the Alberta or Ontario collective agreements in totality.
Both of those jurisdictions have approximately 10 more days in session, fewer non- instructional days, larger average class sizes, more instructional hours not including prep time, and teacher duties which include supervision of students and participation in extracurricular activities.
These are only a few differences which if adopted in B. C. would create cost efficiencies that could be used to grant a wage increase.
