Trips abroad up, visitors down

-

OTTAWA — Canadians took more trips outside the country in November, although there were fewer foreign visitors to this country, Statistics Canada says. Out- ofcountry trips were up 0.8 per cent to five million. Most of that was to the U. S., where overall travel was up 0.6 per cent to 4.2 million excursions. The number was boosted by a 3.5- per- cent gain in overnight car trips, more than off setting a 0.6- per- cent decline in plane trips there and a 0.4- per- cent drop in same- day car travel. Canadians made 782,000 trips to countries other than the U. S., a 1.6- percent increase from October. Travel to Canada from other countries was down 0.1 per cent to just more than two million trips in November.
